This is a favorite sales
interview question for trainee-type sales jobs. The answer to the “sell me this
product” question could express your ability to know customer’s demands, to
select key features of the product and to bring the benefits to customers.
The prominent features not
only attract customer’s attention but brings turnover. A basic of selling is to
sell the benefits customers will gain from the product rather than the list of
features the product has.
Inexperienced candidates in
sales will often make list all the attributes of the pen without studying
customer’s demand and wants or giving explanation on the benefits of product
features. It’s necessary to discover customer’s needs and wants by asking
questions and know how to listen in order to get persuasive answers.
You should ask the
interviewers/customers open-ended questions such as “What is important to you
when selecting a pen?” in order to identify their comments to this product and
then select the features that provide the relevant benefits. For instance, if
the buyer needs useful functions from a pen and to be comfortable to use it,
the seller needs to present what does the pen own useful functions and explain
how this allows for greater comfort.
